Joints partly weak. Some imperfections to top & bottom of spine. Some wear on edges. Special binding, probably late 17th of early 18th century : a 'Spiegelband', both covers have an identical large central guilt ornament with 4 guilt surrounding quadrangles, with different mottled leather in between. Antonius Matthaeus III (1635-1710) was a professor of law at the University of Leyden (from 1672), and the son of Anthonius II (1601-1654) and the grandson of Anthonius I (1564-1637), both also famous jurists.
